BULGARIAN RED CROSS

The Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) is the oldest humanitarian organization in the Republic of Bulgaria, founded in1878, recognized officially by the state as a voluntary organization to assist the State and carry out social - support activities in compliance with the Bulgarian legislation, with the provisions of the Geneva conventions of 1949 and as the only national organization of the Red Cross on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian Red Cross is an autonomous organization, which assists the State in the humanitarian sphere, in the preparation for functioning under marshal law, during military conflicts and disasters, towards preservation and promoting of the health of the population, and towards its education in the spirit of high morals, compassion and charity, as well as in the course of receipt, safekeeping and distribution of aid, provided by foreign states, organizations and citizens for humanitarian, incl. environmental, cultural and educational purposes(Art.3 Bulgarian Red Cross Act). The Bulgarian Red Cross Act was adopted by the National Assembly in 1955. The Bulgarian Red Cross is a corporate body with a legal personality according to the Law on Non-Profit Legal Entities. It is an organization for performing activities to the benefit of the general public. These two acts, the Bulgarian Red Cross Statute as well as the Statutes of the Movement and of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are the fundamental documents, regulating the rights and the obligations of the National Society.



Medical University "Prof. Paraskev Stoyanov" - Varna

Varna Medical University was established in 1961 and was named after Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov, renowned as the person who laid the foundations of the first Bulgarian School of Surgery in the history of the Bulgarian medicine and as one of the founders of Thalassotherapy (Seawater Therapy) and the healthcare in Bulgaria.

The Medical University of Varna offers uncompromised quality of training and it is the first and the only university in Bulgaria, which introduced the model of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM ®) for Business Excellence in 2008. The diplomas issued by the University are recognized in all European countries. For the Academic 2016-2017 the Medical University of Varna is the preferred University for students from more than 40 countries all over the world and has more than 80 international partners from 5 continents.

The University, which celebrates its 55th Anniversary this year under the motto “Success has a beginning”, is teaching more than 5000 students, post-graduates and PhD students in its faculties in medicine, dental medicine, pharmacy and public health, in the Medical College and in the Affiliates in Sliven, Veliko Tarnovo and Shumen. Since its foundation over 50 000 alumni of the Medical University of Varna have lived and worked in more than 40 countries around the world.

The University is proud of the sports achievements of its students in swimming, football, basketball and tennis. The Medical University of Varna students are winning prizes at sports tournaments and universiades. The University has a theatre group, a rock-and-roll group, dance ensemble, and University television MU-Vi.tv. People in Varna are acquainted with the future physicians also due to the numerous charity and healthcare campaigns, which they initiate and carry out every year.

On April 23rd this year, the Medical University of Varna managed to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Human DNA Helix as 4000 people at the South Beach in Varna formed the double chain structure.
